This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use Brussels Keto (brusselsketo.com), why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Who we are
This website is operated independently as a personal content project. For any privacy request, data-subject enquiry (access, erasure, objection, etc.) or other data-protection matter, email privacy@brusselsketo.com. This mailbox is monitored and we respond within one month.
What we collect and why
Newsletter
If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and, optionally, your name.
- Purpose: to send you the emails you have asked for.
- Lawful basis: your consent.
- How it works: we use double opt-in, so you must confirm your subscription by clicking a link in a confirmation email before we send you anything. Every email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.
- Where it is processed: your details are held in our own self-hosted listmonk instance on our server. Emails are delivered through Amazon Simple Email Service (Amazon SES), our email-delivery processor.
- Retention: we keep your details until you unsubscribe, after which we remove them from active mailing.
Analytics
We use GoatCounter to understand, in aggregate, how many people visit the site and which pages are read.
- How it works: GoatCounter is self-hosted by us, is cookieless, collects no personal data and does no cross-site tracking.
- Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in understanding aggregate visitor statistics so we can improve the site.
We also load Google Analytics, but its measurement cookies are only enabled if you allow the analytics category in the cookie banner.
Advertising
We show advertising through Google AdSense to help fund the site.
- How it works: Google AdSense may set cookies to serve advertising and, with your consent, to personalise it.
- Lawful basis: your consent, which you give (or withhold) through the cookie-consent banner. If you do not consent to advertising cookies, you may still see non-personalised ads.
- More information: see Google’s advertising policies and privacy policy.
Affiliate links
Some outbound links on this site are affiliate links. If you follow one and buy something, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
We do not collect any extra personal data through affiliate links. The destination site is a separate business with its own privacy policy, which governs any data you share with it once you leave Brussels Keto.
Hosting and server logs
The site is hosted on Netlify. As part of delivering the site, standard server logs (including your IP address and browser user agent) are processed transiently for security and to serve pages reliably.
Who processes your data
We use a small number of processors, each named below with its role. listmonk and GoatCounter are self-hosted by us, so no third party is involved in those.
| Processor | Role |
|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services | Email delivery via Amazon SES |
| Advertising via Google AdSense | |
| Netlify | Website hosting |
Cookies

| Category | Purpose | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| Necessary | Required for the site to work, including remembering your cookie choice. Always on. | Cookie-consent preference |
| Analytics | Optional measurement of aggregate visitor numbers. | Google Analytics (only if allowed) |
| Advertising | Optional cookies to serve and, with consent, personalise ads. | Google AdSense |
Our own GoatCounter analytics does not use cookies at all.
